Eighteen Years Ago… a Tribute to Circuity
Long before Lila & The Dark ever whispered its way into existence—before audio narration, cover design, or podcasts—I made something else.
It was 2007. I’d just read through one of the more haunting arcs of Fred Gallagher’s Megatokyo—a webcomic that fused geek culture, Japan, and emotional storytelling in a way that was both unexpected and unforgettable. The arc was Circuity—quiet, raw, and resonant.
So I did what creators do when something hits too close:
I made a tribute.
Using Apple iMovie and three popular songs I didn’t own (because distrokid didn’t exist then), I built a music video that captured what I felt in that story. It was rough. It was emotional. And somehow… it worked.
Fred saw it. He even gave me feedback.
And to this day, that still means something.
I didn’t have DistroKid, didn’t know about licenses or content claims—just a passion to make something that honored the story that moved me.
It’s still online. And no, I’ll never be able to monetize it. But that’s not why I made it.
Fred’s still creating at megatokyo.com. And I’m still creating in my own way, just with slightly better tools—and original music, these days.
Here’s to the stories that stay with us. And the spark they leave behind.
Thanks Fred!
